THE COUNTY

The U.S.Department of Agriculture has determined that about 90% of the land in Sonoma county is unsuitable for conventional septic systems. The county is home to over 500,000 residents, therefore many homeowners depend on alternative septic systems. These alternative systems are designed to overcome reduced soil permeability or shallow depth to ground water or a confining layer of clay or rock.

Why Aerobic?

Conventional septic systems provide adequate treatment under many conditions; however, because they discharge contaminated wastewater into the natural environment they depend on natural processes to complete the waste treatment. They require a substantial thickness of free draining soil, and groundwater must be located well below the disposal lines. If these conditions are not met then septic soil conditions and/or groundwater contamination can result.
